Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson says national security is the greatest issue facing the United States in the coming term.
Speaking during a news conference before a Mississippi Republican Party fundraising dinner Monday, Thompson said the biggest threat to America used to be the Soviet Union. Now, he said, it’s al-Qaida and other groups, including “rogue nations in various stages of nuclear capability.”
“Iraq and Afghanistan are the current front in a much bigger global conflict that we’re engaged in,” Thompson said.
