Hood too cozy with trial lawyers
The problem with the 45-year-old incumbent, though, is that it’s difficult to fully trust him. Most of his moves are politically calculated. It’s often hard to tell who is calling the shots in the attorney general’s office, Hood or the trial lawyers who bankrolled his election.
Hopkins, 66, appears to be more independent. In addition to his longtime legal practice on the Gulf Coast, Hopkins served for 31 years in the military, retiring at the rank of major general in the Mississippi National Guard. He would represent the state capably as its chief legal officer.
We endorse Hopkins.
