CHANEY – Anderson IS NOT Endorsed by MS Hospital Assn

By: Magnolia Tribune - October 23, 2007

Democratic candidate Gary Anderson continues to lay-it-on-thick will distortions and double-talk in his “nothing but negative” campaign for Insurance Commissioner.

Speaking before the Mississippi Nurses Association Annual Meeting in Tupelo on October 18th, Anderson announced that his candidacy has been endorsed by the Mississippi Hospital Association (MHA). However, according to Sam W. Cameron, President of the MS Hospital Association, MHA has NOT endorsed Gary Anderson. When asked about the endorsement at the WLOX-TV studio on October 19th, Anderson again stated that MHA had endorsed his campaign. In fact, the Mississippi Hospital Association is a non-profit corporation that by law CAN NOT endorse candidates for political office.

Anderson Admits Taking Insurance Money – Offers New, Sketchy Details About Return

Following a taping at WLOX-TV studio on October 19th, Gary Anderson confirmed that he broke his pledge against taking political contributions from insurance when he accepted money from the owner of an insurance company. Anderson reported the contribution but failed to disclose that it was from insurance in his October 10th Campaign Finance Report on file with the Secretary of State. Anderson now claims that he returned the money on October 2nd. Why would Anderson report a political contribution but fail to mention that it came from insurance on October 10th, if he had already returned that same political contribution on October 2nd?

“You never really know what Gary Anderson is going to say,” said Chaney Campaign Manager, Morgan Shands. “About the only thing you can be sure of is that he won’t be saying how he is going to solve the current insurance crisis. Senator Mike Chaney continues to talk about his plan to make insurance available, affordable and accountable to the policyholder – without being beholden to any special interest group – be it big insurance on one side or personal injury lawyers on the other. Other than attacking us, Anderson does not seem to have a plan.”
