Several Democrats, including former 2nd District U.S. Rep. Mike Espy, announced endorsements this morning for Gov. Haley Barbour in his bid for reelection.
“I’m going a different way and I’m doing it for a good reason,” Espy said. “I don’t agree with everything he’s done, but I know he believes what he believes in.”
Barbour will face Democratic candidate John Arthur Eaves Jr., a lawyer, in the Nov. 6 general election.
Barbour’s record over the past four years, including Hurricane Katrina efforts, and influence in Washington are what drove Espy to back the first-term governor.
Barbour has a “golden rolodex,” Espy said, “and that’s not a bad thing.”
Former Gov. Bill Waller Sr., Moss Point Mayor Xavier Bishop, former Lt. Gov. Brad Dye also endorsed Barbour at the press conference.
