Some of the 40,000 Mississippians sent tax bills in a mailout last week may not owe money, State Tax Commission officials say.
The problem, they say, is a new computer system used to calculate income tax bills that may be the cause. “We don’t have anything 100 percent foolproof,” says spokeswoman Kathy Waterbury.
Well, maybe not, but don’t Tax Commission officials realize that when you send out 40,000 notices and admit some may be bogus, that brings into question all 40,000?
