Candidates stumping at a Labor Day picnic tailored their speeches for the occasion, focusing on issues that they said would help Mississippi’s working class.
State Rep. Jamie Franks, the Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor, told a crowd of about 100 at Smith Park in downtown Jackson that his mother and father both worked at a factory in Tupelo and were union members.
Bryant and other GOP candidates for statewide office weren’t invited to the event, said AFL-CIO President Robert Shaffer.
