Storied chief concedes; Denson leads Choctaws
Martin had until Sunday to challenge the results, but it appears he will not do so.
The Martin campaign did not return calls for additional comment.
Joe Binns, a Denson strategist, said Denson was relieved to see the race conclude without a formal challenge.
“He spent all day with family and friends resting from a long campaign where he worked really hard and was inspired constantly by the dozens of supporters that accompanied him as he walked every community,” he said.
Binns said Denson hopes to serve the tribe as long as “he can keep moving the tribe forward and doing good things for them,” though another 28-year tenure is unlikely.
Although the race was characterized by strong feelings on both sides, each candidate said he hoped to see the tribe come together.
