Former interim Jackson Fire Chief Todd Chandler took a $31,000 pay cut and was demoted to assistant chief after the City Council rejected him as chief last week.
Mayor Frank Melton told the council on Monday that he would stick to the 90-day recruitment plan for a new fire chief that he revealed on April 9, after the council voted 3-2 against making Chandler permanent chief.
