President Donald Trump announced late Thursday that Adam Telle, the current Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, is now serving as Acting Secretary of the Army.
“I am pleased to announce that Adam Telle, the current Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, will become Acting Secretary of the Army, effective immediately,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “He is a Great Patriot, who is respected by all.”
Telle takes over for Dan Driscoll who submitted his resignation to the White House in late August. The resignation was made public on Monday amid swirling rumors of tension between Driscoll and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.
Driscoll had served as the Secretary of the Army since February 2025. His last day on the job was Thursday.
Telle, a former member of U.S. Senator Thad Cochran’s staff, was confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve as the Assistant Secretary in August 2025 by a vote of 72 to 22.
A graduate of Mississippi State University, Telle served as Deputy Chief of Staff, Legislative Director, and the top national security staffer for Senator Cochran for 10 years. He moved to the Mississippi Senator’s office after beginning his service on Capitol Hill in Alabama Senator Richard Shelby’s office.
Telle then went on to lead the Senate team at the White House’s Office of Legislative Affairs during the first Trump Administration. There, he managed all national security and appropriations matters. He joined the staff of Tennessee Senator Bill Hagerty in 2021 as Chief of Staff, a position he held prior to his nomination by President Trump.
