New Director coming to Port Pascagoula

By: Frank Corder - August 18, 2026

Charles Tillotson

  • Charles Tillotson looks to be announced as the new Port Director in Pascagoula, pending approval later this week by the Jackson County Port Authority Board of Commissioners.

After nearly six months of searching, Mississippi’s largest deepwater port will soon have a new director.

Pending approval from the Jackson County Port Authority Board of Commissioners later this week, Charles Tillotson will take over as Port Pascagoula Director.

Port Pascagoula, ranked among the top 25 ports in the U.S. by total tonnage, operates two deep-water harbors with a combination of public and private marine terminals handling more than 32 million tons of cargo annually. The port features 42-foot-deep channels and weather-protected rail operations.

Tillotson comes to Pascagoula after resigning as the executive director with the Louisiana Gateway Port in Plaquemines Parish earlier this year to “pursue new opportunities,” according to a release from the Louisiana port.

Before moving to Louisiana, Tillotson was the chief commercial officer with Port Manatee in Florida. He has also had stints with Marine Terminals Corporation, Ports America, Diversified Port Holdings, and Carver Companies, to name a few.

Tillotson, a 10-year U.S. Navy veteran, graduated from the Army Management Staff College before earning a global logistics specialist certification from California Maritime Academy. He also earned his undergraduate degree at St. Mary’s College of California and his MBA from the University of Phoenix.

As Port Director for Pascagoula, Tillotson will be tasked with overseeing the operation and management of public cargo terminals, sponsorship and management of channels and waterways, support of private industries located within the port, and economic development through the ownership of industrial parks and industrial support facilities.

The Port Pascagoula Director reports to a nine-member Board of Commissioners and is responsible for a staff of 45, according to the job posting for the position.
