JPD chief frustrated crime still top issue
Moore has heard the talk: Some crimes are not included in his department’s weekly statistics; Melton, if elected, would fire him; and he’s a liability to Johnson’s campaign.
To the critics, “The numbers don’t lie,” Moore said.
Moore, a Pontotoc native in the final year of a three-year contract, was the U.S. marshal for the Central District of Illinois before coming to Jackson in 2002. He has spent more than 25 years in law enforcement.
Now, with his job possibly on the line, he blames the media for making Jackson residents feel as if the city has a crime problem.
“The media has failed to uplift this police department,” he said. “People are on a witch hunt.”
