This week, candidate for Attorney General Andy Taggert sent a letter to fellow candidate and State Treasurer Lynn Fitch, requesting that she participate in several live debates prior to the August Primary.
The letter from Taggart asserts that Treasurer Fitch has backed out of participating in a June 5 debate at William Carey University and is not available on June 7 at Southwest Mississippi Community College. Taggart goes on to urge Fitch to reconsider her attendance at these two events.
He then proposes a series of live events to take place in each one of the Supreme Court Districts during a reasonable time and day.
“I am confident that there are many civic-minded organizations willing to sponsor and moderate those debates,” said Taggart in the letter.
A representative from Treasurer Fitch’s office told Y’all Politics Fitch’s absence at these debates is a matter of scheduling conflicts:
“Treasurer Fitch has been crisscrossing the State talking to Mississippi voters about her positive vision as Attorney General for over a year now and will continue to do so through Election Day. She just has scheduling conflicts with these two events.”
