  • Wells’ parents’ attorney Ben Crump said in response to Trump’s remarks that they believe the President’s statement carries more weight than the response given by the FBI.

President Donald Trump was asked Wednesday if he would push the FBI to further investigate the death of Nolan Wells.

Trump told reporters, “We’re looking at that. Yes, we are.”

The president’s remarks came after a report in PEOPLE where “the Department of Justice said that in their view there is no evidence of foul play or any crime.”

“Federal officials assisted in the investigation and agreed with the determination of local authorities,” PEOPLE reported this week after Wells’ parents and their attorney Ben Crump continued to call for further federal assistance in the investigation.

A no true bill was returned by the Jackson County grand jury in September, with no criminal indictments handed down in the Ocean Springs’ teen’s death.

Wells’ parents, however, are not satisfied with that result and have pushed for the investigation to remain open and active.

Crump issued a statement following President Trump’s remarks, saying, “Sunday will mark 100 days since we have been looking into the death of Nolan Wells, so when President Trump responds to news reporters that ‘we’re looking into it,’ we believe that carries more weight than the response given by the FBI. Our team stands ready to work with the federal government to ensure Nolan’s death is investigated to the fullest extent.”
