City of Jackson will continue...

City of Jackson will continue suspending dine in services through May 15

By: Sarah Ulmer - May 6, 2020

Governor Tate Reeves recently moved Mississippi to a safer-at-home order at the end of April that is set to last through May 11. However, some cities are still keeping residents in lock down amid the continued threat of COVID-19.

The capital city, Jackson, remains under an extended stay-at-home order per Mayor Chokwe Lumumba. This week, Reeves announced that restaurants could reopen dine-in services under restrictions and social distancing guidelines, but that won’t be happening for Jackson eateries.

Mayor Lumumba has issued a stay-at-home order to last until May 15. In the order, City Hall, non-essential city offices, city owned or leased facilities will also stay closed as people continue working remotely. A number of Jackson events have also been postponed until further notice.

“We will continue to keep everyone updated as the situation continues,” said Lumumba.

During this time Mayor Lumumba also attempted to issue a ban on open carry in the city that was rejected by City Council members. He has not tried to extend that order again.
