Treasurer McRae applauds Gov. Reeves’ workforce development proposal

By: Frank Corder - January 28, 2020

Treasurer David McRae applauded Governor Tate Reeves’ inaugural State of the State address, highlighting the governor’s workforce development plan as a much-needed step to ensure Mississippi is ready for more and better-paying jobs.

“Governor Reeves laid out an aggressive and substantive plan for the future of Mississippi, particularly when it comes to workforce development,” McRae said. “At Treasury, we are excited to support this agenda by helping more Mississippians save for their college degree and facilitating the community investments required to bring in new job creators. Now is the time to invest in a strong foundation on which tomorrow’s workforce can stand.”

The Mississippi Treasury Department supports two college savings plans. The Mississippi Affordable College Savings Program (MACS) makes giving the gift of college easy and affordable. This state-sponsored savings program helps Mississippi families save for future college expenses, such as tuition, books, supplies, and certain room and board expenses.

The Mississippi Prepaid Affordable College Tuition Plan (MPACT) prepays the cost of tuition and mandatory fees, while protecting against future college tuition increases. MPACT is the only 529 prepaid tuition plan available that is guaranteed by the State of Mississippi.
