Congressman Guest Votes to Pass Highly Anticipated USMCA

By: Magnolia Tribune - December 20, 2019

Yesterday, Congressman Guest (MS-03) voted in favor of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). The agreement modernizes the trade relationship between the United States, Mexico, and Canada and is projected to create $68 billion in new economic activity and 176,000 new jobs. The Mississippi agriculture and business community supports this agreement, as it would expand markets and maintain an advantageous tariff platform for productive trade relations.

“Although this is certainly a victory for Republicans, who have been pushing for passage of this agreement for over a year now, the biggest winners are American farmers, ranchers, manufacturers, and small business owners,” Guest said. “As a rural state with a solid manufacturing sector, Mississippi stands to benefit greatly from this bill. Mississippi’s Third Congressional District is the nation’s third largest poultry producer and will benefit under the USMCA. This trade agreement will provide a boost to our strong economy that has grown significantly under Republican leadership.”
