Local radio talk show host to primary Rep. Michael Guest in #MS03

By: Courtney Ingle - October 3, 2019

Local radio talk show host James Tulp is set to officially announce that he is running against Republican Congressman Michael Guest for Mississippi’s Third District seat.

Tulp, alongside his radio career, has worked previously with Mississippi College’s Political Science department as an adjunct after receiving his Master’s Degree from the program.  Tulp’s claims his campaign is one of positive populism and has used his media platform to spread that message.

“Unlike our current Congressional representative, who maintains GovTrack’s seventh most liberal ideology record amongst Republicans and one of the worst overall leadership marks, I intend to make Mississippi proud with a strong populist stance and will make sure that Mississippians are actually represented in Washington,” said Tulp.  “When elected, there will be no doubt that my loyalties lie with my beloved brothers and sisters in my home of Mississippi.”

Guest, who was elected to fill retired Congressman Gregg Harper’s seat, currently holds a 95.7% “Trump score,” meaning his vote aligns with the work of President Donald Trump nearly 96% of the time, according to FiveThirtyEight.com.

Guest won a Republican primary runoff in 2018 with 65% of the vote and won the general with 62% of the vote.

Tulp’s announcement will take place Thursday, October 3rd at Ridgeland Baptist Church in Ridgeland.

The Republican Primary Election for the 117th United States Congress will take place on Tuesday, March 10th, 2020.  The General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2020.
