Robert Foster endorses Bill Waller Jr. for Governor

By: Courtney Ingle - August 13, 2019

Former Republican gubernatorial candidate Robert Foster has endorsed Bill Waller Jr. for Governor with just two weeks until the Runoff Election.

“This endorsement is a big momentum boost—and I’m very grateful to Robert Foster for his support. Robert Foster ran a strong campaign and he’s a true conservative who shares my beliefs about taking on the toughest challenges facing our state—instead of ignoring problems,” Bill Waller said in a statement.

Waller added that “there’s nothing conservative about pretending Mississippi doesn’t have issues to address.”

“I’m not satisfied with Mississippi having the lowest-paid teachers in America, 5000 miles of state highways and 400 state bridges that need repair, and half of our rural hospitals in jeopardy of closing,” said Waller. “Robert Foster and I share a strong belief in conservative values, protecting our Constitutional liberties and a sincere desire to tackle Mississippi’s most pressing issues.”

Foster joined Waller at an announcement event in Hernando Tuesday morning and has stops scheduled throughout the state today culminating in Jackson at 5:00 p.m.

“This is something I’ve prayed about,” said Foster.  “I didn’t become one of the most conservative House members by selling out my convictions, and I am not going to start now,” Foster stated. “Our shared values are too important to sit idly by on the sidelines and spectate. In December, I committed to do what’s in the best interest of all Mississippians, and I intend on keeping that commitment. In the end, we each just have one vote, or we can stay home. But if you don’t want to see Jim Hood win in November, I encourage you to join me in voting for Bill Waller.”

Combined, Foster and Waller pulled enough votes on Primary Election Night to hold Reeves off from securing the Republican nomination for governor without a runoff.

The Tate Reeves spokesman Parker Briden was reached for comment on the Foster endorsement of Waller.  Curiously, he cited a social media post from state Senator Chris McDaniel last evening as having “said it best”.

Waller and Reeves will debate August 21 at 7 pm on WJTV.

The runoff is set for August 27.
