By: Sarah Ulmer - May 20, 2019

According to the Sun Herald, State Representative Douglas McLeod was arrested over the weekend George County.

Deputies responded to a report of a domestic incident on Saturday. According to jail records, McLeod, 58, was arrested after the deputies arrived. He was charged with a misdemeanor of domestic violence with a $1,000 signature bond.

On Tuesday, Speaker of the House Philip Gunn released the following statement:

“I have attempted to contact Rep. McLeod to request his resignation, if in fact, these allegations are true,” said Speaker of the House Philip Gunn. “These actions are unacceptable for anyone.”

The Mississippi GOP also sent out a statement requesting McLeod’s resignation.

“If the allegations against Rep. McLeod are true, he should resign immediately,” said MSGOP Chairman Lucien Smith. “Violence in any relationship is unacceptable, and I condemn this conduct in the strongest possible terms.”

There have currently been no details of the arrest released, as of Monday.
