Democrat US Senate candidate Mike Espy made an appearance on MSNBC Sunday evening to discuss his one point lead over Cindy Hyde-Smith in the latest NBC SurveyMonkey web poll.
The web poll shows Espy with 25 points and Cindy Hyde-Smith with 24. A randomized phone-based poll conducted by Y’all Politics and Triumph Campaigns in August showed Hyde-Smith with a lead over Espy with Chris McDaniel trailing substantially.
The former Secretary of Agriculture believes his history has contributed to his lead.
“People know I’ll work with both sides of the aisle,” said Espy. He touted his endorsement of Haley Barbour and his time in Congress as serving people of all backgrounds, ethnicities, and orientations.
Online polls are generally characterized as far less accurate than randomized telephone-based polls. The NBC SurveyMonkey poll predicts a 4.3% margin of error in Mississippi.
