Gov. Bryant says Sen. Graham “brought the truth” at Kavanaugh hearing

Congressman Thompson: I believe Dr. Ford

DESOTO TIMES – Southaven readies for Trump rally

Trump’s visit will mark only the second time a sitting U.S. President has visited DeSoto County. Former President George W. Bush visited DeSoto County on Nov. 1, 2003. Former President Bill Clinton visited Horn Lake after leaving office. First ladies Barbara Bush and more recently Laura Bush visited Southaven in 2005 during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina to meet with refugees who had moved inland, seeking shelter in Southaven.

For a sitting leader of the United States to come to DeSoto County, and Southaven in particular, is truly an honor, said Southaven Mayor Darren Musselwhite.

“I think it speaks well of Southaven and how we’ve evolved into, not just an economic player, but a major center of influence for the state of Mississippi and for the Southern region,” Musselwhite said.

The mayor said he had been made aware in the last 10 days of the President’s possible visit, adding security efforts will be coordinated with the Police Department working with the Secret Service.

DESOTO TIMES – McDaniel rallies supporters in Olive Branch appearance

Working to strengthen his support among conservatives in DeSoto County, state Sen. Chris McDaniel Tuesday evening brought his campaign for U.S. Senate to a Town Hall rally at Sweet Pea’s Table and Event Center in Olive Branch.

McDaniel is in the middle of the special election race for the seat formerly held by the now-retired Sen. Thad Cochran and currently held by Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith…

…The candidate has urged his supporters through a mass email campaign to attend the Trump rally in Southaven on Tuesday “and show the President that Trump Country is McDaniel Country,” the email read.

McDaniel campaigns at gun shows and relies on Old South imagery. He defended Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee on Twitter, and his campaign signs have “Chris McDaniel Country” written on the Mississippi flag, which features the Confederate battle emblem.

Since Trump endorsed Hyde-Smith, McDaniel has retweeted his own 2014 endorsements from Trump, who was then a celebrity businessman but not yet a presidential candidate.

McDaniel says he’s long been fighting the political establishment in Washington and Mississippi.

“To the extent that we’re talking about draining the swamp to defend our principles against an establishment that’s out of control, we’ve been doing that for years,” McDaniel said.

WLOX – “Very irresponsibly, I was looking at the dang Twitter feed”: Rep. Greg Snowden maintains he was not inebriated after DUI arrest

House Speaker Pro Tempore Greg Snowden was arrested and charged with DUI refusal Thursday afternoon after he rear-ended a car on Highway 39 North in Meridian.

Police responding to the wreck found enough evidence to take Snowden in to the police department…

…He said he was watching Twitter updates on the Kavanaugh hearings.

“Very irresponsibly, I was looking at the dang Twitter feed.” said Snowden.

Police were called and when they arrived, they asked him to walk the line for a sobriety test. Snowden says he’s had knee surgery and therefore “wobbled all over the place”.
