BREAKING – Trump’s rescheduled rally for Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith next Tuesday 10/2 in Desoto County

By: Sarah Ulmer - September 25, 2018

Donald J. Trump visits Mississippi in 2018, campaigning for reelection.

President Trump has rescheduled his rally event to endorse Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith for Tuesday, October 2. This time, in Desoto County.

“I am honored that the President was able to reschedule his visit to Mississippi to show his support for our state and to campaign on my behalf,” Sen. Hyde-Smith said. “It has been a privilege to back his ‘America First’ agenda, and I look forward to welcoming him to DeSoto County.”

Currently the rally is scheduled for at the Desoto County Civic Center.  Tickets are free and are available on a first-come-first-served basis.

Originally President Trump was set make his endorsement for Hyde-Smith at the Coliseum on the Mississippi State Fair Grounds in Jackson on September 14th. However, due to the impending Hurricane Florence that eventually hit the Carolinas, he cancelled that engagement along with another rally in Missouri that week.

The timing of the trip comes amid ongoing hearings for Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Kavanaugh has recently been the subject of sexual assault allegations by a woman who said she attended a party with the judge in high school and he attempted to rape her.  Both Mississippi Senators Wicker and Hyde-Smith have publicly stated that their support of Kavanaugh has not wavered.

Desoto County is one of the most “Trumpy” areas of the ruby-red Republican voter base in Mississippi.  In fact, in a March 2018 poll run in Desoto County, adherence to Trump policies was rated more important than a candidate’s stance on the state flag by a margin of 79/21.

Governor Phil Bryant stated, “I am so grateful President Trump has rescheduled his trip to Mississippi to support our U.S. Senator, Cindy Hyde-Smith. Since taking office, Cindy has worked tirelessly to advance the president’s America First agenda and I look forward to standing with them to celebrate the great things happening in Mississippi and America.”
