JACKSON, MS — U.S. Senate candidate Chris McDaniel claims to be an ultra-conservative who supports President Donald Trump, but his own words show that isn’t the case.
In a video posted on Facebook, McDaniel calls the President a Liberal and questions Trump’s stance on amnesty, Planned Parenthood, and health insurance.
“I think Trump is probably the most liberal president we’ve had since Nixon,” McDaniel says in the video. “I am deeply concerned about some of Donald Trump’s past positions.”
Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith’s campaign said these statements show McDaniel isn’t the conservative Trump supporter that he claims to be.
“Chris McDaniel likes to pretend that he would support President Trump if he were in the Senate,” said Melissa Scallan, spokeswoman for Hyde-Smith’s campaign. “In reality, McDaniel has shown us his true feelings in videos he posted. This is just another reason why Mississippians can’t trust Chris McDaniel in the U.S. Senate.
“Cindy Hyde-Smith is the only U.S. senator who has supported President Trump 100 percent of the time,” Scallan said. “She has proven unequivocally that she wants to do what is best for Mississippi and this country.”
