Congressman Harper makes statement on Speaker Paul Ryan’s announcement he will not seek re-election

By: Sarah Ulmer - April 11, 2018

U.S. Congressman Gregg Harper (MS-03), Chairman of the Committee on House Administration and the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, released the following statement following Speaker Paul Ryan’s announcement that he will not seek re-election:

“Paul Ryan was appointed Speaker of the House at a very critical time, and he has humbly served with great honor, integrity, and distinction.

Speaker Ryan is a great leader, always uniting the party where we need it the most. He championed our efforts with President Trump to pass and sign into law historical and conservative victories like the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, strengthening and empowering the American people, and his work to rebuild the military.

Personally, Speaker Ryan has been a great advocate and friend. He appointed me to serve as the Chairman of the Committee on House Administration. It has been my honor to serve in this capacity, and I would not have had this opportunity had it not been for him.

While the announcement this morning was sad, Speaker Ryan has brought us so far, and I know he will finish strong. I appreciate the Speaker’s service and am grateful for the knowledge I gained from him. I wish Paul, his wife Janna, and their children the very best in this next chapter of their lives.”
