State officials and organizations show support for newly appointed Cindy Hyde-Smith

So far, Mississippi officials are speaking out in support of the appointment of Commissioner Cindy Hyde-Smith to the United States Senate.

Congressman Gregg Harper:

U.S. Congressman Gregg Harper (MS-03), Chairman of the Committee on House Administration and the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, released the following statement following Governor Phil Bryant’s announcement of his intent to appoint Mississippi Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce, Cindy Hyde-Smith, upon Senator Thad Cochran’s retirement:

“I fully support Governor Bryant’s selection of Commissioner Cindy Hyde-Smith to be our next United States Senator.

Cindy Hyde-Smith is a solid conservative that will represent Mississippi well and with great integrity. The Governor has made an excellent selection, and I look forward to serving with her in Washington, D.C.”

Governor Phil Bryant:

“Cindy Hyde-Smith is a rock-solid conservative. When I was Lt. Governor and Cindy served in the State Senate, she was the most reliable vote I had for conservative causes. Cindy has also successfully carried the banner for the Republican Party in two statewide elections and demonstrated her appeal to voters by winning in an overwhelming fashion. She is a Mississippi success story and will make us proud representing our state in the United States Senate. I’ll be working hard to help support her work in the Senate and on her upcoming campaign.”

MS GOP Statement:

Today, Gov. Phil Bryant Appointed Mississippi’s Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce, Cindy Hyde-Smith, to succeed Sen. Thad Cochran upon his retirement from the U.S. Senate. Mississippi Republican Party (MSGOP) Chairman Lucien Smith released the following statement congratulating Cindy Hyde-Smith on the appointment.

“Governor Bryant made history today by appointing Mississippi’s first woman to the United States Senate. Cindy is a lifelong conservative with a deep commitment to the people of Mississippi. I am confident her years of expertise will serve her well in this new capacity, and I congratulate her on this well-deserved appointment.”

Senator Roger Wicker: 

U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., today issued the following statement after Gov. Phil Bryant, R-Miss., selected Cindy Hyde-Smith to serve in the U.S. Senate:

“Governor Phil Bryant has made an excellent and historic pick in Cindy Hyde-Smith to be our next United States Senator.  She served admirably in the Mississippi Senate and as our Commissioner of Agriculture, and I know she will be an effective, conservative Senator from day one.  I look forward to being her colleague and working with her to serve all Mississippians.”
