Governor won’t speculate about Cochran’s future

JACKSON – Republican Gov. Phil Bryant, who will be charged with filling the vacancy and calling a special election should U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran step down, said he will not engage in speculation about Cochran’s future.

In an email response to a question Thursday, the second-term Republican said, “Mississippi is stronger because of Sen. Cochran’s service, and I look forward to it continuing. Speculation about anything else is insensitive, irresponsible and unfair.”
