Medicaid deficit comes as no surprise
A little more than 24 hours before it was revealed that Medicaid Executive Director David Dzielak was stepping down – presumably forced out by Gov. Phil Bryant – he told the House Medicaid Committee last Thursday the health care agency would be requesting a deficit appropriation of $47.3 million.
The deficit request will be another challenge for legislators dealing with sluggish revenue collections.
But it should not be a surprise. Nearly every year, the Legislature faces a deficit request from the Division of Medicaid.
