Northern Transportation Commissioner Tagert talks infrastructure funding, gas tax

WEB EXTRA: A conversation with state Transportation Commissioner Mike Tagert

TREMONT, Miss. (WTVA) – Northern District Transportation Commissioner Mike Tagert talked Wednesday with WTVA’s Craig Ford about the 25-year anniversary of the Mississippi Welcome Center that is located on Interstate 22.

However, the Republican was also asked about what he thought about the reduction in state funding by the Mississippi Legislature and whether he would support raising the gas tax to pay for road improvements.

Tagert also shared what he thought was a flaw in the 1987 highway program that gave the region multiple four-lane highways and what he sees as a big need right now that should be addressed.
