Could Musgrove victory lead to demise of MAEP?
If the nine-member state Supreme Court rules that current law mandates the Legislature fully fund the Mississippi Adequate Education Program, then the law must be changed, said House Pro Tem Greg Snowden, R-Meridian.
But then Snowden added, “To tell you the truth, we are going to do that anyway. But clearly if the justices rule against the state…, I think we would be obligated to do that.”
The Supreme Court heard oral arguments last week in a lawsuit filed by former Democratic Gov. Ronnie Musgrove who maintains that current state law requires the Legislature to fully fund the Mississippi Adequate Education Program every year.
