Six lawmakers speak in Columbus about upcoming special session

“I’m opposed to the state lottery,” District 37 Representative Republican Gary Chism said. “If he brings it up, I think it’s going to delay us getting out of there quickly, I think it’ll be contentious on both sides.”

“I do support a lottery however I don’t know that all the funds should go to transportation,” District 41 Representative Democrat Kabir Karriem said. “We do have education funding problem here in Mississippi.”…

…District 16 Senator Democrat Angela Turner-Ford says right now, she’s not sure what the best option is for more funding.

“That’s a tough question to answer because a lot of people are divided on the lottery and fuel tax,” she said. “I think maybe if we could come up with a combination of sources that might be something that would appease different groups across the aisle.
