Gang bill’s author stalls hybrid version
Sen. Brice Wiggins, R-Pascagoula, one of the authors of SB 2027, said when senators looked at how to bring back the bill after tweaking the language, HB 240 seemed like the perfect vehicle because Scott had made a speech on the floor about the dangers of drugs and gang. Especially after the amended version passed the Senate overwhelmingly, it escapes him, he said, as to why she would be a part of killing her own bill.
“She killed her own bill,” Wiggins said. “So, do you support what you’re talking about or are we dealing in that petty of politics? At the end of the day we’re without a bill to address the problems that have been highlighted of gangs in our states.”
Wiggins said the Mississippi Gang Act had more eyes on it and more discussion of the components than any other bill this session.
