Legislature won’t act on high rate of felons denied voting
No legislation will pass this session addressing the issue of Mississippi having the second highest percentage of felons who are not allowed to vote.
Senate Elections Chairwoman Sally Doty, R-Brookhaven, said she does not intend the take up a House bill that would create a task force to possibly make recommendations on the issue of felons losing their voting rights.
The bill passed the House earlier this session without a dissenting vote. Tuesday is the deadline to pass out of committee bills that originated in the other chamber, meaning it will die then when Doty does not take it up.
