Hosemann early last week said absentee voting — often a predictor of turnout — was low, at less than 72,000 ballots requested compared to 106,000 absentee votes cast in 2012.

But as of Friday, this had picked up, with nearly 96,000 requested, more on track with 2012, which saw a record turnout of 1.6 million Mississippi voters.

Remember, in the immortal words of Hosemann from about a week ago: “Voting for president of the United States is not optional.”
