From Mississippi Democrat Party email:
On Behalf Of Chairman Bobby Moak
There’s an old adage in politics: “when you’re explaining, you’re losing.”
The Republican Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Paul Ryan, said he will no longer defend or campaign for his Republican Party’s presidential nominee. This comes after the release of comments by his party’s presidential nominee in a vulgar video, an effort to deflect the heat from himself, and then have a questionable debate appearance. Other respected current and former elected Republicans have taken a similar stance as the Speaker.
We have seen our neighboring governors, Robert Bentley (R-Alabama) and Bill Haslam (R-Tennessee), along with U.S. Representatives Martha Roby (R-Alabama) and Bradley Byrne (R-Alabama), join the chorus. Additionally, former presidential nominee, John McCain (R-Arizona), is no longer a supporter of his party’s nominee either. At the same time, national religious leaders from various faiths have stepped forward to withdraw support from the Republican’s nominee.
Meanwhile, here in Mississippi, not a single statewide, Congressional, legislative, district, county, or municipal elected Republican has voiced any opposition such as Speaker Ryan. Not one. They all continue to support, endorse, and work for their party’s presidential nominee. They are not just riding the train, they are stoking the fire to keep it running.
This election is about us. It is about our own Mississippi upbringings and convictions. It is about lessons of parental leadership to our children. It is about all of us setting aside partisan bickering and, instead, taking a deep view into our true selves.
