AG advocates Supreme Court decision on bathroom case
Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood said he will file a motion asking the U.S. Supreme Court to hear a Virginia case on whether local school districts must allow students to use the bathroom that they identity with sexually.
Hood, Mississippi’s only statewide elected Democrat, was criticized in May when he refused to join a separate, multi-state lawsuit by the Texas attorney general challenging a federal ruling that students should be allowed to use the bathroom of the sex with which they identify.
“In May, when Texas sued the federal government, I declined to join that action because I was already involved in a case in Virginia which would likely reach the U. S. Supreme Court a couple of years before that suit,” Hood said Thursday in a statement, pointing out that the U.S. Supreme Court has temporarily blocked a U.S. Court of Appeals ruling in the Virginia case that said transgender students could use the bathroom they identified with sexually….
…“With this issue, I believe local professional educators should make these decisions rather than lawyers.”
