New law allows small Mississippi towns to reduce number of aldermen

By: Magnolia Tribune - May 12, 2016

Mississippi’s small towns can eliminate 2 aldermen

Small-town government in Mississippi could soon operate with fewer aldermen.

A bill signed into law that goes into effect July 1 will allow a town with a population of 500 or less to operate its government with three aldermen instead of the current required five. Voters would have to approve the change in a special election.
