HALL: Freedom of Conscience bill legalizes discrimination

By: Magnolia Tribune - April 4, 2016

SAM HALL: Religious freedom bill offends my religious beliefs

It is impossible for me to read the Protecting Freedom of Conscience from Government Discrimination Act and at all fathom that it has anything whatsoever to do with protecting religious freedom, especially that of a Christian.

Proponents of this abomination of a bill say that it will allow people to exercise their religious beliefs without fear of persecution by state government. That’s one interpretation — if you are ignorant of how the law works, haven’t actually read the bill or are just pandering to a political base.

This bill legalizes discrimination of some people based on other people’s religious or moral beliefs on the following issues:

Marriage being between one man and one woman
Being divorced
Being divorced and remarried
Having premarital sex
Having extramarital sex
Having sex with more than one partner at a time
Sex between two or more men, married or not
Sex between two or more women, married or not
Transgender people
