MS House passes campaign finance reform study committee, LG Reeves expects more in Senate

House wants campaign finance study

Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves said he supports the reform measures. On Monday, he said he still expects the Senate to take up the bill despite the House’s apparent reluctance to approve such reforms.

The House measure passed Monday would create a 10-member “Campaign Finance Study Committee.” It would include the House and Senate chairmen and vice chairmen of election committees, plus three members appointed by Speaker Philip Gunn and three members appointed by Reeves.

The committee would “conduct a thorough review of campaign finance laws” and make a report to the Legislature by Oct. 15, before next year’s legislative session.
