COCHRAN COMMENDS COAST GUARD PORT SECURITY UNIT FROM KILN

Port Security Unit 308 Wins 2015 Defense Department Reserve Family Readiness Award

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) today commended the U.S. Coast Guard Port Security Unit 308 from Kiln, which was honored Friday at the Pentagon for winning the 2015 Department of Defense Reserve Family Readiness Award.

“The men and women of our Armed Forces understand the challenges of fulfilling their service and family commitments. I’m pleased this Mississippi unit is being honored for excelling in the Defense Department’s Family Readiness Programs,” Cochran said.

“To those serving in Unit 308, I thank you and your families for your service, sacrifice, and dedication for our country,” he said.

Coast Guard Port Security Units, like PSU 308 in Kiln, are deployable units organized for sustained operations, with an ability to deploy within 24 hours and establish operations within 96 hours.

The Reserve Family Readiness Award is presented by the Department of Defense to the top unit from each Reserve Component that achieved outstanding family readiness while maintaining superior mission readiness. The Family Readiness Units support military families to bolster mission readiness and improve the deployment capabilities of National Guard and Reserve units.
