Lawmakers hear budget requests from Education agencies

By: Magnolia Tribune - February 10, 2016

Education agencies give budget briefs

Education officials from K-12, community colleges and colleges and universities on Tuesday highlighted their past successes and future financial needs in presentations to lawmakers…

…House Appropriations Chairman Herb Frierson, R-Poplarville, said the committee will likely look at specific programs in each of the three agencies that warrant additional funding.

“You take K-12, community colleges, universities and workforce training — they are the Siamese quadruplets that drive the Mississippi economy as to what kind of outcomes they’re producing, so everything I heard today was a priority,” said Frierson. “But what can be done with limited resources is the challenge.”

Frierson also said the Legislature will have to balance additional education funding with the $34 million being requested for foster care reform.
