Former state rep Eaton supporters cry hypocrisy

Eaton camp points to Gunn challenge, claims hypocrisy

In Gunn’s case, a lower court ordered a special election for two precincts because of errors in split precincts from problems with redistricting and the state Supreme Court agreed. Gunn had lost the primary originally by 17 votes, but won by 155 after the partial special election, and won his first term in office in the House.

Eaton supporters are claiming his ouster was partisan politics led by Gunn and the GOP leadership, not a fair hearing of Tullos’ challenge. They’re pointing out that Gunn in 2003 argued “technical irregularities will not preclude the counting of a vote where there is no evidence of fraud or intentional wrong,” but that last week House Republicans overturned the Eaton-Tullos race making the opposite argument.
