MS House Committee recommends dismissal of HD 98 primary election challenge

By: Magnolia Tribune - January 6, 2016

Legislature dealing with 3 disputed elections

A special committee on Tuesday recommended the state House dismiss an election challenge and leave it to the courts, saying lawmakers don’t have authority over disputed party primaries.

The recommendation comes in one of three disputed Legislative races — two in the House and one in the Senate — still to be determined even after lawmakers began their new session on Tuesday.

Tasha Dillon has appealed her loss to incumbent Rep. David Myers, D-McComb, in the Aug. 4 Democratic primary for the House District 98 seat. A Pike County circuit judge had dismissed her challenge, saying the Legislature has jurisdiction over disputed legislative races.
