Uselton salary set in special board meeting

Incoming DeSoto County School District Supt. Cory Uselton will get an approximate $70,000 pay raise when he enters the district offices in Hernando for the first time next month as leader of the county public school system.

Board members in a special meeting Tuesday morning voted 3-1 to set Uselton’s salary at just over $170,000 a year. He currently makes $99,000 annually as principal of DeSoto Central High School…

…The $170,000 salary was set based on a figure of $5.12 per student. Current board policy indicates a suggested per-student number of $5.25 for the state’s largest school district, now with 33,208 students, as noted at Tuesday’s meeting.
