Math at issue in Madison Co. Sup election challenge

GOP remains confident in Bishop victory

Banks contends there are a total of 31 affidavit ballots that were simply not counted and included in the final totals for two reasons:

• Four ballots were unopened and no reason was given for them not being counted;
• Twenty-seven affidavit ballots were counted but not included in the totals.
“He’s trying to count those 27 twice,” said Pete Perry, an election consultant for Bishop. “Just because the ballots were put back in the envelopes didn’t mean they weren’t counted.”

Banks’ petition in total claims there are 4,677 votes when in actuality there only 4,650, Perry said. “Anybody with 6th-grade math – Common Core or not – could figure that out.”
