DAILY JOURNAL: OUR OPINION: Federal budget deal clears the 2016 deck

President Barack Obama’s signing Monday of a bipartisan, two-year federal budget bill avoids default, probably a a government sutdown, and delays another all-out fighting over budgeting until at least the presidential and congressional campaigns in 2016.

Obama received the budget after bipartisan coalitions in the U.S. House and Senate voted late last week to approve the deal hammered out in committee and with leadership urging.

U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran and U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, both Mississippi Republicans, played influential roles in getting the agreement into law.

U.S. Rep. Trent Kelly, R-Tupelo, voted against the deal, which placed him in a minority within the overall Mississippi delegation.
