Members of the Mississippi National Guard and Mississippi State Guard honored Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves for his support of servicemen and women and their families.
The Mississippi National Guard awarded him the Mississippi Distinguished Civilian Service Medal. The Mississippi Distinguished Civilian Service Medal is the highest civilian award authorized and was given for Lt. Gov. Reeves’ consistent support of the men and women of the Mississippi National Guard.
The State Guard Association of Mississippi presented him with the Distinguished Service Award.
“The State Guard of Mississippi appreciates Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves and the support he has shown members of the military and their families,” the Distinguished Service Award states. “Lt. Gov. Reeves recognizes the sacrifices Mississippi men and women make daily to protect our state in both peacetime and in times of crisis.”
Lt. Gov. Reeves has worked to pass legislation in support of Mississippi’s military families. New laws include:
· Recognizing combat training by Mississippi National Guard personnel and retired members of the Mississippi National Guard to streamline the ability to obtain an enhanced concealed carry permit.
· Exempting members or veterans of the National Guard or Reserve units from state’s residency requirement for a regular concealed carry permit;
· Allowing members of the National Guard or the Reserves, who have been deployed to assist with response to a Presidential Declared Disaster area, to be eligible for the Mississippi Military Family Relief Fund; and
· Allowing servicemen and women and their spouses to transfer professional licenses to Mississippi;
“Mississippians are proud of their service to state and country, and we should honor those who sacrifice to preserve our freedoms,” Lt. Gov. Reeves said. “I am proud to support initiatives that can make their lives easier and to allow them to focus on their military missions.”
