Pickering announces return of recovered funds to Warren County

By: Magnolia Tribune - August 17, 2015

RELEASE:

State Auditor Stacey Pickering Returns Funds to Warren County

JACKSON – The State Auditor’s Office has returned a check for $279,112.82 to the taxpayers of Warren County today. These funds were recovered as part of the investigation of former Warren County Circuit Clerk Shelly Ashley-Palmertree.

An Agreed Judgement was entered against Palmertree for $818,251.75 in her civil case. The remaining issue to be resolved was the liability of her bond company for $300,000. It is against this bond that OSA is returning funds.

“Returning these embezzled funds marks another step in making the taxpayers of Warren County whole again,” said State Auditor Stacey Pickering. “Our office will continue to pursue any funds available, including an additional $100,000 bond that we’ve already identified.”

In March of this year, Palmertree plead guilty to embezzlement and was sentenced to ten years in the custody of MDOC with five years to serve and five suspended, to run concurrently. She was ordered to pay $20,000 at sentencing, turn over the $19, 542.99 in her criminal account, and pay the balance of $67,164.64 in monthly installments of $1,250.00 beginning May 10, 2015.
