Today’s high-riding Mississippi Republicans probably have no idea how the state party struggled for mere survival during the 20th century.
They probably never heard of the “Lily White” Republicans and who they were. Or the “Black and Tan” Republicans who, while led for decades by an absentee black chairman, were officially recognized and seated at national conventions.
