Attorney: ‘Significant’ day in court for Singing River Health System retirees
An attorney for the Singing River Health System retirees said Wednesday’s hearing before special judge Breland Hilburn made significant strides for the county case over the failing pension plan that affects hundreds of former and current workers at the hospital system, the county’s second largest employer.
What happened:
n SRHS attorneys agreed to produce documents from the failing pension plan in 10 days. Retirees’ attorneys said they were afraid the documents will be “sanitized,” “raw” and not comprehensive, but were glad to get something. They accused the hospital attorneys of dragging their feet since December on turning over documents and accounting about the plan.
n Hilburn set Chancery Clerk Terry Miller to watch over the $150 million assets in the plan until the case is over and told SRHS attorneys no lawyer fees will be taken out of the plan at this time.
