Early in the year, I wondered what alternate universe I had awoken in when I first heard the phrase “liberal Thad Cochran.” With my finger firmly on the pulse of the voting public, I predicted that accusation would go nowhere.
Next thing I knew, Mississippi’s U.S. Senate race was a national election, the front line in the Republican civil war.
Before I could say oops, though, those most conservative Mississippians, who were principal fabricators of Liberal Thad, had doubled down, had torn a page from noted constitutional scholar Abbie Hoffman’s playbook and had declared war on The Establishment.
